Encryption - Quick Code Project 3

You can use Quick Code encryption when you and a partner both have the same key. In this case, the key is a template. A template is a pattern used as a guide in making something accurately. In this case, you will be using a template to place the characters of the message in exactly the right spot on a piece of paper.

Materials

Procedure

  1. With your partner, make a template using the guide at the end of this packet.
  2. Use the template to encrypt a secret message.
  3. See if your partner can decrypt the secret message.
  4. Trade messages with someone who doesn't have the same template. See if you can figure out each other's messages.
  5. Complete the learning survey.

Learnings Survey

Discuss this encryption method with your group. On a sheet of paper, answer the following questions:

  1. What are some strengths of this encryption method?
  2. What are some weaknesses of this encryption method?
  3. How could you go about breaking this encryption method if you did not have the template?
